Brisbane Airport is the only international airport located in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia. It is not only the gateway to Brisbane but also the third busiest airport in Australia, after Sydney and Melbourne airports. Brisbane Airport is owned and operated by Brisbane Airport Limited. The Brisbane Airport is about 4 meters (13 feet) above sea level. The airport has two asphalt runways: Runway 01/19, which is 3560 meters long and 45 meters wide, and Runway 14/32, which is 1700 meters long and 30 meters wide. There are two passenger terminals at the airport: the international terminal and the domestic terminal. The international terminal, which opened in 1995, has 12 bridges, two of which can handle A380-type aircraft take-off and landing operations. The International Terminal has begun expansion work at a cost of roughly A$45 million, with completion scheduled for mid-2015. The domestic terminal at the airport is a two-story curving structure that was erected in 1988. In addition, the airport features a cargo terminal where frequent freight services are provided.

Brisbane Airport was one of two airports in Australia to receive the IATA Eagle Award in 2005, and in July 2007, Brisbane Airport was chosen as the finest airport in Australia and the Pacific, receiving the 2008 World Airport of Excellence Award. Brisbane Airport primarily serves the city of Brisbane and its surrounding areas, with the Brisbane-Sydney air route ranking 11th in the world and eighth in the Asia Pacific region. The airport serves 42 domestic and 28 international routes operated by more than 25 airlines, and in 2013, Brisbane Airport carried more than 21.8 million passengers annually.
